What I am Working On – December 2010

Dec 9, 2010 What I am Working On (WIP)

I haven’t updated since April 4th, 2010. I’m sorry I haven’t kept this up. I’ve been spending all my time on WoLD, which isn’t a bad thing but I’ve neglected to keep up my personal blog.

I will update my personal blog more often. Every month I will post Monthly Updates.

Monthly Updates will include:

  • What I am working on
  • Upcoming tutorials on WoLD
  • Sneak peak of various projects I am working on

Arch Viz in Hammer Source Environment Study

Architecture Environment Study. The focus of this project is to create a 3D environment and to increase the speed of my workflow in Hammer: Source. Primary focus is on using Source Engine to create real-time walkthrough for architectural visualization.

I am also keeping detailed workflow log and will release an ebook on how I achieved the final result. So far I have over 150 images from the very beginning.

I will post more of work-in-progress screenshots in next few days. But as of right now here is a sneak peak. I am very close to being done with this project.

Roads in Hammer Source Tutorial Series

Roads in Hammer Source is a tutorial series that I am almost done with. Free tutorials will be released on World of Level Design. The focus of this project was to cover all the aspects of creating roads in Source Engine. It covers roads using basic and very complex geometry construction.

As of right now I have close to 100 minutes of edited videos, ready to go. I will probably begin to release the series in beginning of January.

The tutorials cover:

  • Basic road creation
  • Creating realistic roads
  • Intersections (3-way and 4-way)
  • Tight and Wide 90 degree turns
  • 180 degree turns
  • Creating curved sloped roads
  • Blocking roads off and creating believable road environment

I really wanted to cover in detail how to create variety of roads in Hammer. I think I have achieved that. I’m very happy with how the tutorial series has turned out.

Stay tuned for a full blog post here on AlexGaluzin.com/blog of my environment studies. Here is a couple of screenshots.

UDK Gellert Baths

Gellert Baths is a project I am working on with UDK. I wanted to create an environment based off of a real location. Gellert Baths are thermal baths and swimming pool in Budapest, Hungary. I am very early in production. I’m only blocking in and testing scale inside UDK using BSP brushes. More to come on this.
